FORT ST. JOHN: BC Hydro is contributing nearly $45,000 to support six local non-profit groups through the Site C project’s Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund.
The latest recipients are:
- Wellness Truth Family Counselling and Advocacy Foundation: $7,500 to support women and families escaping domestic violence and other trauma.
- Hudson’s Hope Historical Society: $8,000 to help improve accessibility at the Hudson’s Hope Museum for seniors and people with diverse abilities.
- Tansi Friendship Centre Society: $3,750 to support educational, social, and cultural teachings groups for new parents and young children.
- Peace Valley Arts Society: $10,000 towards a new kiln to help expand the pottery program in the community.
- Josh Lequiere Society: $5,000 to support sports programs for underprivileged youths.
- BC SPCA North Peace: $10,000 to help provide pet food to low-income households.
"Our organization has officially survived its first year of being a registered charity here in Fort St. John, and we would not have been able to do the work we have done without the help of the BC Hydro GO Fund,” said Lisa Jewell, Executive Director, Wellness Truth Family Counselling and Advocacy Foundation.
The GO Fund was established in September 2016 and is distributed to Peace Region non-profit organizations that provide services to vulnerable populations including children, families, and seniors. It has supported more than 100 projects to date.
Earlier this year, BC Hydro added $100,000 to the fund, bringing the total contribution to $1 million.
The GO Fund will continue to accept applications while there is money available. Applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis and funds are distributed several times per year.
