BC Hydro’s Site C GO Fund Reaches $1 Million Milestone, Final Grants Awarded

FORT ST. JOHN: BC Hydro is awarding $80,000 to nine non-profit organizations in the Peace region through the final intake of the Site C project's Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund, concluding the program as the project nears completion later this year.

Since its launch in 2016, the fund has provided over $1 million in support of 118 community initiatives.

"The GO Fund was established to support non-profit organizations in the north and south Peace Region as part of the Site C project and we're incredibly proud of its legacy,” said Chris O'Riley, President and CEO, BC Hydro. "As we conclude this program, we celebrate the meaningful contributions it has made to the communities in the region over the past decade."

The final recipients operate programs focused on health and safety, life skills, arts, and inclusion.

  • North Peace Seniors Housing Society: $7,500 to help improve safety and prevent falls for people living in senior’s housing residences.
  • Wellness Truth Family Counselling and Advocacy Foundation: $10,000 to support marginalized youth in learning about life and coping skills, budgeting, and food and financial literacy.
  • Fort St. John Senior Citizens’ Association Branch #58: $5,000 to help provide nutritious meals for seniors in the community.
  • Sources Community Resources Society: $4,500 to support specialized training for caregivers on toilet training techniques for neurodivergent children.
  • Chetwynd Public Library Association (3 programs): $5,000 to the AlphaBITES program to help provide nutritious food for children, families and seniors; $10,000 to the Community Crafting program to support inclusive activities; and $4,700 to the Seed Library Patio Gardens program to help children and families learn to grow their own food.
  • Hope for Health Society (2 programs): $10,000 to provide recreational equipment for low-income families and seniors and $5,000 to support a community wellness conference.
  • Chetwynd Community Arts Council: $5,000 to support a circus camp for local children and teens, including those from low-income families.
  • Fort St. John Association for Community Living: $4,100 for an art program designed to be inclusive of people with disabilities.
  • Whiskey Jack Nordic Ski Club Society: $10,000 to help build an accessible outhouse for children, families, and seniors who visit the ski club’s trails and day lodge.

The GO Fund was administered by Northern Development Initiative Trust on behalf of BC Hydro.

With all funds distributed, the GO Fund is now closed.
