Rustic Recreation Site Fund

In 2019, we launched the Rustic Recreation Site Fund (the Fund), a $200,000 fund to mitigate project impacts on rustic recreation sites due to the creation of the future Site C reservoir.

Rustic sites generally feature minimal amenities, which may include a cleared area for camping, a fire pit, a picnic table, or an outhouse. Non-profit recreation groups, local governments and Indigenous groups can apply for up to $10,000 per site to create new or enhance existing rustic recreation sites.

The Fund provides $100,000 during Site C project construction for the development or enhancement of recreation sites located along the Peace River and its tributaries, and outside the dam site and the future reservoir area.

An additional $100,000 will be provided within the first 10 years after reservoir filling, toward the development or enhancement of rustic recreation sites located along the new Site C reservoir shoreline.

Proposals accepted during the construction phase intake are currently being evaluated by the Rustic Site and Trails BC branch of the B.C. Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

Successful Fund applicants must have the necessary site designation(s) and/or authorization(s) from the Rustic Site and Trails BC branch of the B.C. Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development prior to receiving funds. The following application and guide will direct applicants on next steps.
