VANCOUVER: BC Hydro has been notified that four contractor workers on the Site C project have tested positive for COVID-19.

One worker tested positive after returning home following their shift rotation. They are currently isolating at home under the medical supervision of their local health authority.

The other three workers are currently at site and will remain in quarantine in a separate dormitory in the worker accommodation under the supervision of the onsite health clinic.

All four workers were part of the same small crew at site. As a precautionary measure, all remaining members of this work crew have also been isolated in camp or at home.

None of the workers who tested positive left camp or had any interaction with the local community.

BC Hydro has been monitoring COVID-19 closely since early 2020, and has regularly reviewed and adjusted its safety protocols to minimize the risk of transmission to, or within, site based on the guidance of the health authorities.

These measures include health screening prior to accessing site, enhanced cleaning throughout the worker accommodation, mandatory mask use in camp and construction offices, and adherence to physical distancing rules throughout site.

BC Hydro and its contractors also recently set up thermal scanners at various exit and entry points of the worker accommodation lodge that are used before workers board crew buses or leave camp to go to various project work sites. Local workers are already scanned each day when they enter the site.

To date, BC Hydro has been notified of 11 people testing positive while working on the project.
