Public advisory: Halfway River boat launch permanently closes September 23

BC Hydro is reminding boaters and river users that the existing Halfway River boat launch will permanently close on September 23. This is in preparation for Site C reservoir filling, planned for later this fall.

Boaters will not have access to the Peace River between Fort St. John and Hudson’s Hope during reservoir filling and for at least one year afterwards, as BC Hydro monitors the new reservoir for slope stability and erosion.

The public is asked to be extremely cautious around the reservoir and obey all signage.

BC Hydro is building new boat launches to replace the current sites along Highway 29. The replacement boat launches will be located at Halfway River and Lynx Creek, and will feature a day use area, washroom, and interpretive kiosk. There will also be a small-craft launch at the D.A. Thomas recreation area in Hudson’s Hope.
