FORT ST. JOHN: BC Hydro is contributing $10,000 to the Hudson’s Hope Public Library through the Site C project’s Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund.

The grant will help fund year-round programming and services to community members of all ages. This includes new program tools for students up to 18 years old to learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The grant will also provide support for a monthly book club program for adults. 

This is the second grant the Hudson’s Hope Public Library has received through BC Hydro’s GO Fund. A grant of $10,000 to support the delivery of free programs for children and young adults was provided in 2018.

“Hudson’s Hope Public Library programs have always been a beacon to patrons within the community,” said Amber Norton, Library Director. “Being awarded a GO Fund grant for $10,000 will help solidify funding for library programs. It will also give a firm foundation to restart in-person programming when provincial restrictions are lifted enough for library programs to resume in person.”

To date, 57 projects have received $504,000 from the $800,000 fund, which was established in September 2016 to support non-profit organizations in the north and south Peace Region throughout construction of Site C. The fund allocates $100,000 per year for eight years. The program provides funding for community services and the fund is administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

Applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis and funds are distributed quarterly over an eight-year period. For more information on the fund, including past recipients and application details, please visit sitecproject.com/gofund.
