BC Hydro donates $200,000 to The Salvation Army in Fort St. John

FORT ST. JOHN – The Salvation Army today unveiled a plaque recognizing BC Hydro’s $200,000 donation to The Salvation Army’s Northern Centre of Hope in Fort St. John. The funding provides $175,000 for building repairs and maintenance and $25,000 to kick off the Christmas Kettle Campaign.

The wall plaque has been placed in the kitchen of The Salvation Army’s Northern Centre of Hope acknowledging BC Hydro’s support of the facility and the community.

BC Hydro has recognized the need and importance of investing in the community and is providing funding to emergency and transitional housing providers in the city of Fort St. John.

  • The Salvation Army’s Northern Centre of Hope provides clients with support services and accessible resources, such as addictions programming and regular community meals.

  • The Centre includes:

    • An emergency shelter with 30 beds.

    • 34 transitional housing beds, with associated supportive programming.

    • A daily hot meal program.

    • A drop-in centre where at-risk individuals can receive support, counselling and referral to other community services.

  • The Northern Centre of Hope served 53,000 meals and provided over 8,000 bed nights last year.

  • The $175,000 donation has funded a new roof on the Centre, as ice damming and seepage was a serious concern last winter and the roof was identified as the Centre’s most important need.
