FORT ST. JOHN: BC Hydro is contributing $6,800 to the Northern Sun Helpers Society through the Site C project’s Generate Opportunities (GO) Fund.
The grant will help fund a weekly lunch program for individuals and families in Fort St. John who are suffering from addiction or living with those suffering from addiction. The lunch program provides free meals to individuals who are in need every Sunday.
This is the first grant the Northern Sun Helpers Society has received through BC Hydro's GO Fund.
Members of the Northern Sun Helpers Society provide meals to vulnerable residents in Fort St. John.
"We're very grateful for BC Hydro's support in helping us serve our community – especially during this unprecedented time," said Pamela Romanow, President of the Northern Sun Helpers Society. "We've served 1,115 lunches in the past six months, and this grant will help us provide more meals to local youth over the next six months to make their lives a little brighter in the days to come."
To date, 56 grants have received $494,000 from the $800,000 fund, which was established in September 2016 to support non-profit organizations in the north and south Peace Region throughout construction of Site C. The program provides funding for organizations that provide services to vulnerable populations including children, families and seniors and the fund is administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
Applications for funding are accepted on an ongoing basis and funds are distributed quarterly over an eight-year period. For more information on the fund, including past recipients and application details, please visit sitecproject.com/gofund.
