VANCOUVER – BC Hydro and Saulteau First Nations have agreed on terms for an impact benefits agreement (IBA) that will provide economic development opportunities and other benefits related to the construction and operation of BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project.

Terms that were endorsed in a community vote include lump sum payments, an annual payment stream, contracting opportunities, Crown land transfers and protection of the Peace Boudreau, a land area of importance to Saulteau First Nations.

With a population of more than 1,000, Saulteau First Nations is an adherent to Treaty 8. Treaty 8 covers parts of northeastern B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.

BC Hydro is building the Site C project to meet the long-term electricity needs of B.C. Site C will provide enough electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 450,000 homes per year. It will be a source of clean, reliable and affordable electricity in B.C. for more than a century.
