Public advisory: Shoreline enhancement work at Wilder Creek

We’re building new shallow water fish habitats in the future Site C reservoir at Wilder Creek, 20 kilometres west of Fort St. John along the Peace River.

Crews have started road upgrades and vegetation removal required to access the site. Workers will access the worksite via Bennett Road. The excavated material and topsoil will be distributed on-site and in the surrounding area for future agricultural use.

This project will create new shallow water fish habitat in the reservoir area. It's part of a broader program that creates enhances fish habitat in preparation for reservoir filling. The habitat provides a nutrient-rich environment below the reservoir’s minimum normal operating level for a variety of fish species expected to inhabit the reservoir.

After construction is complete, the area will be restored for agricultural use.

What to expect:

  • Increased truck traffic on access roads, as equipment is brought to and from the work site.
  • Construction has begun, and is scheduled to be complete by late fall.
  • Work will take place seven days a week.
  • Crews will generally be on site from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., though work may take place at any time of day or night.
  • Drivers are asked to be patient and use caution.
