B.C.-based company awarded contract to build Site C transmission line

VANCOUVER – BC Hydro has awarded the Site C transmission line construction contract to Allteck Line Contractors Inc.

B.C.-based Allteck will build two new 500 kilovolt, 75 kilometre transmission lines along an existing right-of-way between the Site C project and the Peace Canyon generating station. The new lines will help deliver power generated at the dam to other parts of the province.

The value of the transmission line contract is $113 million, which is included in the project budget. Work will begin this summer and is expected to be completed in 2023 and BC Hydro estimates there will be approximately 130 people working on the transmission lines at the peak of construction in early 2019.

Allteck has signed a labour agreement with the IBEW Local 258 for electrical work, and have committed to the hiring, training and retention of Indigenous workers, women, apprentices and local workers.

The contractor has significant experience building transmission lines, including past BC Hydro projects such as the Vancouver Island Transmission Reinforcement project and the Okanagan Transmission Reinforcement project.

BC Hydro is committed to following rigorous standards for all of its procurement activities. The transmission line contract was awarded following a comprehensive evaluation and due diligence process.
